I would like to intern/volunteer with PIH. Where can I find out about such opportunities?

All internships and volunteer positions are by application only. View a list of current volunteer positions or visit our internship page for more information.

Due to the volume of inquiries we receive, PIH is not able to acknowledge receipt of your application. We will contact you only if your application is selected for additional review. Aside from a limited number of postings at Socios En Salud in Peru, PIH generally does not recruit volunteers for overseas work; whenever possible, we work with members of the communities we serve in order to expand local skills and knowledge as well as to ensure sustainability. If you are interested in overseas work, we encourage you to explore opportunities at other organizations; www.idealist.org is one of many excellent web and print resources.

I would like to visit a place where PIH works. How can I sign up to be part of trip?

As Partners In Health works to strengthen public health infrastructure and grow community-based healthcare, our teams at our project sites are staffed by local medical professionals and support staff. We do not offer short term volunteer trips as other organizations might, as we prefer to create positions locally for the jobs general volunteers could fill, and do not have the capacity to host visitors. If you are looking for a volunteer placement, please look at organizations such as www.crossculturalsolutions.org or www.globalvolunteernetwork.org, whose primary services are placing volunteers in meaningful positions abroad.

I am a medical professional (medical student, nurse, MD, etc.) and would like to volunteer at one of the PIH sites. Is this possible?

We occasionally do take medical volunteers at our sites, but ask that they are able to commit at least six months to working at our sites, have completed at least their core medical training (completed 2nd year of medical school) and have the appropriate local language skills. Our teams in Haiti, Rwanda, Malawi, Lesotho and elsewhere are staffed almost exclusively locally, and we have found the six month commitment and language requirement critical to integrating volunteers in a way useful for the teams on-site. We do not have short-term general volunteer positions, as we prefer to hire locally for the types of jobs these volunteers could fill.

If you're interested in a more long-term placement with PIH, please send your CV, highlighting any experience (travel, volunteer, or employment) in a developing country, specialized medical training or skills, language skills, and availability, accompanied by a cover letter, to [email protected].
